Zoetrope with 3D character sculptures, Installation, 90cm, 2010.
Zoetrope is actually one of the earliest forms of modern films and animations. Because the number of images it can use is fairly limited, few take it as a medium for artistic creation. The work take the idea of traditional Zoetrope and turn it into a installation art, combining video camera and computer to display an animation that circulates endlessly, expressing a thought with 16 motions. The wheel upon which contains 16 mice with different motion gestures revolves in a speed of 45 times per minute. The vague afterimages are seen through the video camera which captures the video in 12 frames per second, which enables the viewers to see the static headless mice come to live and keep opening the door, intending that life is made up of the actions of opening different kinds of doors, and the headless mice suggest that this action is not self-directed.
